THE MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL TAG!

Hello lovely people! Today I bring you a cute, quick tag. I was tagged by the absolutely incredible Orangutan Librarian. If you are not following this blog already what are you even doing with your life?!

I could not find the original creator of the tag! 😦 So, if you know please let me know so I can credit them! All covers are either from Goodreads or photos taken by me.

So even though we are finishing up spring and heading into summer here in Australia, here are my answers to the mid-Autumn festival tag.

REUNION OF FAMILY

NAME A BOOK WITH FAMILY GOALS

val

I love the dynamics between Pearl and her brother and sister in Valentine by Jodi McAlister. You can tell they love each other dearly but their dynamic is very different from the average family.

FULL MOON

NAME A BOOK WITH A WEREWOLF

41865

The very first book I read with Werewolf’s in the story. Although I like Jacob I was team Edward and team vampire all the way. I have read many other books featuring werewolf’s but this book started it all for me. 🙂

MOONCAKES

NAME A KIND OF FOOD IN A BOOK THAT YOU WISH WAS REAL

3

Chocolate frogs from the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling. I am the biggest sweet tooth and these sound like they would be my favourite snack for the train ride to Hogwarts!

RABBIT

NAME YOUR FAVOURITE CREATURE FROM A BOOK

sjm

Abraxos my sweet baby!! He is the creature to rule all creatures! He is EVERYTHING!!!!!! Just in case you didn’t know Abraxos is a wryven from the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas. And I have still NOT read Kingdom of Ash yet so please no spoilers!!!

CHANGE

A CHARACTER THAT MAKES A SIGNIFICANT CHANGE TO THE PLOT SINCE HE/SHE DID SOMETHING TOO MANY TIMES

So, I don’t really get this question. Like a character that makes mistakes all the time? Or an annoying character so they ruined the book? Or a scheming character that just kept trying to make their plans come to life??

sb

I am going to go with the last one and say Leigh Bardugo’s The Darkling. He is one determined character and his actions push the plot on in more than one occasion.

LANTERNS

NAME A TOY OR GAME IN A BOOK THAT YOU LIKED TO READ ABOUT

7955579

Wizards Chess in the Harry potter books by J. K. Rowling. I find the Muggle version pretty boring and not for me. But The magical version sounds much more action packed and interesting!

AUTUMN

NAME A BOOK WHICH YOU FEEL IS THE BEST TO READ IN AUTUMN

17675462

I don’t really match my reads to the seasons. I am more of a mood reader and just read whatever I feel like despite the time of year. However, this book and in fact the entire series gives off very Autumn/ Halloweeny type vibes. Maggie Stiefvater made a really magical world in The Rave Cycle series.

FESTIVAL

NAME YOUR FAVOURITE FESTIVAL IN A BOOK

31076583

I have to go with Winter Solstice in ACOFAS by Sarah J. Maas as well. It was just so magical and sounds like it would be a beautiful time full of love, family and friends. In fact, I like many of the celebrations in this world, seems like there is a different party every week! ❤

The Netflix Book Tag

Hello again beautiful people! What have we all been up to? What are you reading watching? Today I bring you another tag. This one however speaks to my soul!! As next to reading my favourite hobby is watching TV/Movies hence the blog. So this is the Netflix book tag. I am not sure of the original creator but I was tagged by Lexie at Reading in the wings. So let’s grab some popcorn and some cozy blankets and get started! divider 1

Recently Watched: The last book you finished reading.

Well it’s only a novella not a full book but A court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J Maas. You can see my review here if you’re interested. 🙂

Top Picks: A book that has been recommended to you based on books you have previously read.

Being a big fantasy reader and YA reader many of the books I read are recommended in the way they are grouped together at the book store. Or because I follow a lot of readers who also read fantasy if I see them talking about a book and they have liked books I have loved then I usually will give it a go. So I can’t really pick just one!

Recently Added: The last book you bought.

2 I have read:
  • The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare
  • Nevernight By Jay Kristoff

2 I am yet to read:

  • Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo. (I do mean to read this I know it’s going to be great I just am not ready to let go of those characters yet).
  • Lord Of Shadows by Cassandra Clare. I own this, it just took me so long to get through Lady Midnight. I am just not sure if I want to continue.

Dramas: A character who is a drama queen/king.

This tag is quickly revealing how much I am Sarah J Maas trash. But if Rhysand isn’t the biggest drama queen you have ever met than you must be yet to meet him! That boy’s love for dramatic entrances/ reveals alone is enough to give him the crown! hahaha.

ACOMAF

Animated: A book with cartoons on the cover.

I don’t really own any books with what I would call cartoons on the cover. But I guess the Harry Potter books I own kind of do? They are illustrated at least. Does that count?

Watch it Again: A book or series that you want to re-read.

I have said it before and I will say it again. I am a huge re-reader I love to reread my favourites all the time! And Love to re-read just before a new instalment in a series comes out. I have had the urge recently to reread the Throne of glass series by Sarah J Maas. However I want to wait till closer to the release of the final book even though I am yet to read Assassin’s Blade or Tower of Dawn.

Documentaries: A non-fiction book you’d recommend to everyone.

I am not going to lie I very rarely read non-fiction books. I mostly read to escape or relax so non-fiction isn’t really my thing. I will say I did really enjoy Lauren Graham’s book: From Gilmore girls to Gilmore girls talking as fast as I can.

Action Adventure: An action packed book.

Despite most fantasy books being packed full of some kind of action. The first book that came to mind for this is definitely Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. The fights, the scheming, the plotting, the violence. Just everything about the dregs LOVE LOVE LOVE!!

SOC

New Releases: A book that just came out, or will be coming out soon, that you can’t wait to read.

My mind is almost completely blank right now on new releases that are coming out! I know of some later this year into early next year that I am very excited for. But have been so busy lately I haven’t really kept track of ones coming out soon! I will say I am excited for One small thing by Erin Watt. It comes out June 18th. As although I read mostly fantasy I absolutely loved When its real and read it in almost one siting! And this sounds like another All the feels young love story. ❤divider 1

A Court of Frost and Starlight: Spoiler free review.

Title: A Court of Frost and Starlight (ACOTAR 3.1)

Author: Sarah J Maas

Publisher: Bloomsbury

Published: May 2018

Genre: NA Fantasy, Novella

Rating: 4.5/5

Review2

I will firstly begin by saying that majority of this review is completely spoiler free and I will label anything I think could be even remotely a spoiler. I was in a massive slump for the entire first half of this month. This slump I think was mainly because ACOFAS was released and all I wanted to do was read it! But unfortunately I was unable to purchase it until recently. Well let me say reading it has gotten me out of the slump and more so! Although I do have quite a book hangover and cannot get these character out of my head!

While waiting to be able to buy this novella and trying to avoid spoilers like the plague I still noticed so many negative review/ rants opinions about this book. Which had me so worried thinking I myself wouldn’t like the story. It seems to be that not many people have liked it.  I have heard people accuse that it is a money grabbing scheme that could have just been included as special edition content. This may have been possible yes but I love it for what it is. And I also want to mention that not everyone has the chance to get those special editions with bonus content! A lot of the time they are very hard to get! So this way everyone has a chance to read and learn more about the characters.  Also why are people surprised it’s so short?? It’s a novella! I myself never once saw it advertised as anything else! What so Sarah is capable of writing huge books she’s not allowed to write a novella or a shorter story? As always everyone is entitled to their own opinions and I am not saying they are wrong I have simply addressed some statements I have heard and my own thoughts on these. Anyways now I am done addressing these and let’s be honest there I got a bit salty. Let’s move the review tone back up to my normal rambley happy self and talk about the novella and my thoughts/ experience with it.

This novella centres around the inner circle but mainly still Feyre and Rhysand. It covers Feyre’s first winter solstice with the inner circle and as high lady of the night court. It gives us even more of a glimpse into the traditions and dynamics of the inner circle which I loved! I literally teared up and or laughed out loud in some parts. I loved getting to see some of the inner circle member’s personalities be developed more and just seeing where all the characters are at after the war. I will just say some are definitely doing better than others.

I loved that Feysands story was fully tied together in this novella more so then at the end of ACOWAR. I think they truly have their happy ending now and a possibility at maintaining it! Which just makes my heart happy. As for the other members of the inner circle there was enough new information introduced and enough things left open ended that I am excited to see what it all means and how it all takes off/ comes together in the next novels.

The sneak peek of the next book in the series with the new MC’s was absolutely crazy! I can not wait a whole year or however long it is going to be to see how this story will play out and how these characters will grow and develop even more.

*possible spoiler in next paragraph although not really*

I will say that I don’t necessarily agree how Feyre is deciding to deal with a certain character in these sneak peek chapters. Considering herself and others may have stepped in before it got this bad. However this character didn’t seem to want anyone’s help so possibly had to go the way it did. Anyways I am rambling. My point is I am excited after those sneak peeks to see how things go. I think it’s going to be a hot mess but in a I really want to read about it way!

*spoiler but not spoiler section is finished read away!*

In conclusion I loved it for exactly what it was. A story tying up some lose ends creating a happy ending for some but bridging us to the next novels in this world. It was cute, emotional and allowed for more development of the inner circle. The only reason this is not a five star read for me, is because I may not agree with all the actions of all the characters. And secondly I just want more and hate that I have to wait so long to read more about the precious inner circle. Therefore it’s a solid 4.5/5 from me!Let's Chat!Have you read ACOFAS yet? What were your thoughts? Who is your favourite inner circle member? Let me know in the comments below! Happy reading and watching!
