My 2020 bookish goals

header goals

Hello lovelies! How have you all been? I know it’s been a while, but I am back and have the audacity to set myself some bookish related goals for 2020. In the past I haven’t shared my goals or even really set any as I was so not sure if I could really achieve anything on these platforms, whether my voice was unique enough and *insert a list of other self-doubts here* also I am such a huge mood reader how do you even set goals around that?

But this year I have decided to say screw it I want to un-apologetically strive for my goals and do the things that make me happy and bring a fire to my belly. whether I succeed or flop at least I can say I tried and hopefully this year is a year of growth and change for the better!divider 1

Now when I say bookish goals, I mean goals including and in relation to reading, book blogging, bookstagram and booktube.  So I will break them down under these segments so let’s get started:

Reading:

I have very limited goals for reading as being a big mood reader is still a huge facet of my personality and really does dictate what and how much I read but going with the theme screw it lets make some anyways!

  • I want to read 50 books this year and that is what I have set my Goodreads reading challenge to. If you would like to follow along with me on Goodreads you can do so here.
  • I want to try and catch up on all old review books and read and review any new ones by the due date.
  • I would like to read more nonfiction/ self-help material in order to help my growth and educate myself more.

Blogging:

This year my blog will turn 4 years old! Have I been blogging constantly throughout that time? Clearly not! I have had so many hiatuses it’s not even funny! So, for those of you from the OG days thanks for sticking around I owe you one. My goals for my blog stem from wanting to really get back into blogging and start giving it my all. I want to at least be consistent and see where it goes from there.

  • Post at least 3 times a month (doesn’t seem like much at all I know but if I manage this it will be huge for me!).
  • Review every book I read in 2020 and post it here and then on Goodreads.
  • Write/create and post more discussions and original content not just reviews and lists/tags etc. (although I still will do these too).
  • Reach 500 subs/followers on the blog. (I know it’s not about the numbers, but I would love to connect more with this community and share content I am proud of).

Bookstagram:

My bookstagram also turns 4 years old this year! I love bookstagram it’s honestly been one of the best communities to me and I can wait to see what 2020 has in store for us all. if you want to hand out on insta this year you can find me here.

  • I want to continue to have fun with my new theme I just launched today! And to not be scared to change it up when the desire comes my way.
  • I want to post at least once every 2 days.
  • I want to use stories more and to produce more story templates for everyone to use.
  • I want to reach 2k followers. I know this is probably the biggest goal on the list but hey a girl can dream right??

Booktube:

I started my booktube at the end of last year. I wanted to try out a new part of bookish social media and learn some new skills and test my creativity. I really did enjoy the process but unfortunately life got in the way and I kind of fell off the band wagon for a bit! So, I only have one goal for this:

  • Start making booktube content again

And that’s it these are my bookish related goals for 2020! Thank you all for sticking around in 2019 (for the like two posts I made) and I hope we all have an awesome bookish year this year!Let's Chat!

THE MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL TAG!

Hello lovely people! Today I bring you a cute, quick tag. I was tagged by the absolutely incredible Orangutan Librarian. If you are not following this blog already what are you even doing with your life?!

I could not find the original creator of the tag! 😦 So, if you know please let me know so I can credit them! All covers are either from Goodreads or photos taken by me.

So even though we are finishing up spring and heading into summer here in Australia, here are my answers to the mid-Autumn festival tag.

REUNION OF FAMILY

NAME A BOOK WITH FAMILY GOALS

val

I love the dynamics between Pearl and her brother and sister in Valentine by Jodi McAlister. You can tell they love each other dearly but their dynamic is very different from the average family.

FULL MOON

NAME A BOOK WITH A WEREWOLF

41865

The very first book I read with Werewolf’s in the story. Although I like Jacob I was team Edward and team vampire all the way. I have read many other books featuring werewolf’s but this book started it all for me. 🙂

MOONCAKES

NAME A KIND OF FOOD IN A BOOK THAT YOU WISH WAS REAL

3

Chocolate frogs from the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling. I am the biggest sweet tooth and these sound like they would be my favourite snack for the train ride to Hogwarts!

RABBIT

NAME YOUR FAVOURITE CREATURE FROM A BOOK

sjm

Abraxos my sweet baby!! He is the creature to rule all creatures! He is EVERYTHING!!!!!! Just in case you didn’t know Abraxos is a wryven from the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas. And I have still NOT read Kingdom of Ash yet so please no spoilers!!!

CHANGE

A CHARACTER THAT MAKES A SIGNIFICANT CHANGE TO THE PLOT SINCE HE/SHE DID SOMETHING TOO MANY TIMES

So, I don’t really get this question. Like a character that makes mistakes all the time? Or an annoying character so they ruined the book? Or a scheming character that just kept trying to make their plans come to life??

sb

I am going to go with the last one and say Leigh Bardugo’s The Darkling. He is one determined character and his actions push the plot on in more than one occasion.

LANTERNS

NAME A TOY OR GAME IN A BOOK THAT YOU LIKED TO READ ABOUT

7955579

Wizards Chess in the Harry potter books by J. K. Rowling. I find the Muggle version pretty boring and not for me. But The magical version sounds much more action packed and interesting!

AUTUMN

NAME A BOOK WHICH YOU FEEL IS THE BEST TO READ IN AUTUMN

17675462

I don’t really match my reads to the seasons. I am more of a mood reader and just read whatever I feel like despite the time of year. However, this book and in fact the entire series gives off very Autumn/ Halloweeny type vibes. Maggie Stiefvater made a really magical world in The Rave Cycle series.

FESTIVAL

NAME YOUR FAVOURITE FESTIVAL IN A BOOK

31076583

I have to go with Winter Solstice in ACOFAS by Sarah J. Maas as well. It was just so magical and sounds like it would be a beautiful time full of love, family and friends. In fact, I like many of the celebrations in this world, seems like there is a different party every week! ❤

Tag you’re it!

What is your favourite thing about Autumn? What is your favourite fictional food? I struggled with this question the most! Until next time happy watching and reading!

Book Tag: 20 Questions

Hi there blogging world! Today I have another tag for you all! I was tagged by the lovely girls (Ash & Lo) at Windowsill books to do the 20 questions books tag. The original creator of this tag was not mentioned so if you know, please let me know!

So this tag works basically like the 20 questions game I am sure we have all played at some point. But this is the bookish version! So without further ado here are my answers:

HOW MANY BOOKS IS TOO MANY BOOKS IN A SERIES?

For me this depends on how much I like said world and characters. If I love something I can’t get enough of it and I want to spend as much time as possible with that world and characters! However I do own a book series that is about 15 books long and no matter how much I love the story I have not been able to finish it yet. So maybe anything longer than 8 books would be too long for me.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT CLIFFHANGERS?

I have a love hate relationship with them. I think they are great at making you feel all the feels and propelling the story onwards. But if I don’t have the next book available the wait to see if my babies are ok is torture!

HARDBACK OR PAPERBACK?

Although hardbacks look better. They are way more expensive and actually harder to get in Australia. I also think they are more cumbersome to read. So paperback all the way (I mean have you seen my blog name? haha).

FAVOURITE BOOK?

I can not choose and you will not make me!! But seriously how do people actually choose just one?!

LEAST FAVOURITE BOOK?

This one is also really hard as most of the books I own I really enjoyed at some point in my life. So I just picked the one on my shelf that I have read and remember the least about!  The Summoning by Kelly Armstrong, something about kids with powers? Bringing the dead to life? I do remember enjoying it when I read it I just can’t remember much about it and have no desire to reread it soon. :/

LOVE TRIANGLES, YES OR NO?

Mainly yes. If they are done well. Although I am not going to lie I do get sucked into them picking a team and hoping to hell that the other ‘love’ interest just leaves already! 😉

THE MOST RECENT BOOK YOU JUST COULDN’T FINISH?

I very rarely DNF books. So I don’t think I have had a book I couldn’t finish recently. 🙂

A BOOK YOU’RE CURRENTLY READING?

I am still actually finishing up my re-read of ACOWAR as I have been in a bit of a slump. I have no idea what to read next! 😦

LAST BOOK YOU RECOMMENDED TO SOMEONE?

I can’t remember! I know I have said that The Cruel prince by Holly Black was great a number of times recently! And I am always telling people to give ACOTAR a go.

OLDEST BOOK YOU’VE READ? *PUBLICATION DATE*

Probably The great Gatsby or the Bible although I have not actually ever finished either cover to cover. I do intend to one day finish Gatsby though!

NEWEST BOOK YOU’VE READ? *PUBLICATION DATE*

I don’t have the money for new books at the moment so I think the most recent one I purchased and finished was The Cruel Prince by Holly Black.

FAVOURITE AUTHOR?

I love so many Authors for so many different reasons! But two of my favourites who are pretty much auto buy authors for me are Sarah J Maas and Jay Kristoff. ❤

BUYING BOOKS OR BORROWING BOOKS?

Buying!! When I have money to do so! That way they are mine, part of my collection and if I don’t want to I don’t ever have to give them back! Plus some borrowing books are just gross like where has that book been?!

A BOOK YOU DISLIKE THAT EVERYONE ELSE SEEM TO LOVE?

Not that I necessarily disliked it, like I did enjoy most of it just nowhere near as much as the rest of Cassie’s books. But Lady Midnight. Please don’t hate me! It just took me 3 shots to finish and although I enjoyed the ending I still haven’t picked up the next book.

BOOKMARKS OR DOG-EARS?

Bookmarks 110% of the time! I don’t like to damage my books in any way. Plus bookmarks are just so pretty! I will only dog ear magazines and books that are already damaged beyond repair.

A BOOK YOU CAN ALWAYS REREAD?

Any book I loved/ liked? I am a big re-reader! New book in a series coming out? Reread! No money for new books? Reread! Want to feel all the nostalgic emotions? Reread! In a slump? Reread!

CAN YOU READ WHILE HEARING MUSIC?

No, if I notice that it’s on while I am reading it’s like my brain short circuits and can’t do anything else but hear the words of the song!

ONE POV OR MULTIPLE POV’S?

I enjoy both! One is good if you love that main character but if you do not multiple is good to get away from them.

DO YOU READ A BOOK IN ONE SITTING OR OVER MULTIPLE DAYS?

I am compared to what seems like most people in the book community a pretty slow reader. So I can almost never finish a book in one sitting. But there has been times where I have done basically nothing but read for days to get through a book as I can’t put it down!

A BOOK YOU’VE READ BECAUSE OF THE COVER?

The amount of cover buys I have had over the years is astounding! Off the top of my head the only one I can think of right now is The raven boys. I brought originally because of the cover! They are just stunning though so can you blame me?! ❤

Three things about me:

  • My favourite animal is a tiger.
  • I don’t like coffee!!
  • I am a proud Slytherin, but am yet to read all the HP books :O I really do need to get around to finishing them they are so good! But I have been putting it off due to a certain death I know about thanks to the movies.

Darque Dreamer’s Questions:

What is one thing about you that people don’t believe?

Ummm I don’t know?? I haven’t really done anything unbelievable like go on some magical quest or anything. HAHA. But maybe I feel some people don’t believe how old I am or think I am younger then I am?? I dunno I have a baby face and love Disney and am forever a child at heart! The adult world can take a hike!!

What book would you love to live in?

This is a tricky one! There are so many good places! Like I Would like to visit Prythian like after ACOWAR and everything has settled down. I would love to live in Six of Crows so I could go on an insane adventure with Kaz and the gang. But I would also love to live in the HP books so I could learn magic and go to Hogwarts!

What time period would you love to travel to?

This one is easy for me! I have always had an obsession with the 1920’s I love all the glitz and glam. The fashions! Those flapper dresses! And the way men dressed back then! Plus the music and the dancing! It just seems like such a great time! I mean despite the great depression and all that Jazz.

What book genre would you consider reading a book from without knowing the synopsis or title?

I guess for me it would have to be a fantasy book. It would have to be my favourite genre so likely the safest bet to me liking a book without having seen anything else about it! But let’s be real I would never do this by choice! HAHA! Who would? I want to read books I like and it is very hard for me to finish a book if I just am not into it!

If you could buy one book for everyone to read, what would it be?

This is another tricky one! And I wish I had an answer that was more grown up, deep and meaningful. But I think I am just going to have to go with a book that surprised me as the writing style, context, characters and story are not like what I usually read! But this book fast became one of my favourites and still is. So I am going to have to go for Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. If only to spread the love and badass vibes around for this book! Seriously if you have not read this book please give it a chance!

My Questions:

  • What is a book that almost everyone seems to love but you hated?
  • What is your Hogwarts house and do you think this fits you/ wish it was different?
  • If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go and why?
  • Favourite read for 2017 so far?
  • What is your favourite snack food to eat while reading or just because??

divider 1

So I hate talking myself up but the post that I think is my best or that I am just generally happy with how it turned out and was received is my review of Six of Crows. I just really liked this book and am happy with how the review turned out and the thoughts I was able to express.
